Juicing Or Blending, What’s The Difference? (Part 1)

As a family we love juicing and making green smoothies, and we enjoy them every day and have done so for years. We often get asked about the difference between juices and smoothies, and if they’re the same. Basically they’re not, and I’ll explain why.

Blending - A Variety of Options

The biggest difference between juicing and blending is generally thought of as texture for most people, however for those with more experience there's quite a bit more to consider! A blender combines various ingredients and can also roughly chop vegetables and fruits for use in smoothies, salsas, soups and stews. The texture a blender produces is thick and contains all of the pulp and other parts of fruits and vegetables, creating various grades of smooth to slightly chunky consistency. Therefore it produces delicious smoothies from all kinds of vegetables like carrots, kale, spinach and cucumbers or pretty much any fruits you can think of, which when consumed in this way support digestive health, regular elimination, satisfy hunger, sustain energy levels and even balance your blood sugar over time fairly well too.

In any case, be sure to wash the vegetables like carrots, kale and chicory well as these grow close to soil and tend to require a good rinse before juicing or blending them. Furthermore, you may even choose to trim down the carrots a bit to ensure they're clean if they're somewhat rough around the edges.

To sum it up, the basic difference between juicing and blending depends on the application. The thicker texture of blended smoothies tends to be higher in fiber and slower to digest, whereas juices deliver nutritional benefits more quickly because these require less metabolic processing. Juicing and blending are both vitally important parts of a healthy regimen and should be used in the balance that best suits you. Remember that juiced and blended fruits and vegetables should be used as soon as possible, so that the nutritional value remains at the highest potency.
